Photos of a little white home standing alone on a deserted island spread quickly online, sparking fascinating hypotheses. It’s been named the world’s loneliest house, but it’s also been described as an introvert’s dream home.
After being shared on Instagram by Hörður Kristleifsson, photos of the White House quickly went viral. The shots reveal a magnificent log house located on a green hillside, bordered on either side by blue oceans.
This house, according to The Mirror, is located on Ellidaey, a deserted island south of Iceland. Vestmannaeyjar, an archipelago of 15 to 18 islands, includes this little island. The island is now empty, although it was formerly home to five families. The last of these families left the island in the 1930s, and it has been abandoned since then.
For a long time, rumors, questions, and suspicions have swirled about this white home on the remote island. According to The Sun, one such myth says that it was created by an eccentric billionaire who intended to utilize it in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
Others have speculated that the property is owned by the well-known Icelandic musician Bjork or a religious hermit.
Some people on social media have even alleged that the mansion does not exist and that the photos were Photoshopped.
The mansion does, in fact, stand on the island of Ellidaey and is owned by the Ellidaey Hunting Association. It was built in the 1950s and now serves as a hunting house and sauna for members of the puffin hunting group.
