Thinking of how fast some cars could drive and the top speed they could reach, a sudden question arises in my mind. How could policemen chase these cars? And are they able to win this race at any point?
What about the stunning Bugatti Chiron? We are talking about one of the most powerful hypercars ever made. Could police cars have a chance to chase it?
Chiron Speed and Power
With four turbochargers that help the massive 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine produce 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque this car is unbelievably fast and powerful.
Car and Driver estimate the peak speed of the Bugatti Chiron at 420 km/h (261 mph). It takes less than 2.5 seconds to get from 0 to 96km/h (60 mph), which is unmatched. Power and technology are perfectly combined in this vehicle. It can’t be beaten or outrun since it’s the quickest automobile that came off the assembly line.
To arrest it, the police would need a second Bugatti Chiron, and the driver need to be a professional racing driver. So buying a Chiron means you will be the unarrested thief?! NO, don’t be so happy and start thinking of what you could do with this car!
Even if it is that much fast, there is still some points to consider that might get you caught easily!
Enormous Fuel Consumption
The Bugatti Veyron, for comparison, consumes up to 94 L / 100 km (62 miles) at top speed, which is an insane number. It has a full fuel tank capacity of 100 liters, which means that the car will not be able to race the police cars for more than 80 miles until parking in the gas station and asking for a quick refill!
The case is not different at all with the Bugatti Chiron, which will most probably make a very close number to what its sister Veyron did.
Who will win the chase?
The cops will always win the “chase.” Even in the United States, police cars aren’t all that fast on the open road. But, you might ask, “they must chase down cars!” So, why aren’t they super-fast?!”
Speed isn’t really an issue when it comes to police cars (as seen by the beloved Ford P71 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor).
It is not necessary for police to overtake the cars they are following in order to stop a suspect from escaping in a car. If they fall behind, that’s okay. They’re behind the car they’re following, but they’re close enough to see where it’s heading.
Because of the great radio technology, the cops aren’t required to be fast. They could create a counterattack on the Chiron and get the suspect arrested.
